I'm recalling this from memory so I may be paraphrasing a bit:

Jenny: How do you know it's a good piece of art? What makes it good?

Danny: Well you just know. Deep inside, inside your gut, you just know. Some people say that's the first step but they're wrong that's the whole point!

Man does this sum things up well for me. When I listen to music, say two equally invigorating piece of songs, I just know if I like one and not the other. There's no reason, there's no why.. I just know! This is especially true for a lot of the ambient noise side of things that I have been listening to. Like now I'm listening to 'Twift Shoeblade' by Mouse on Mars, a smile just crept up on my face!

Two other songs off the top of my head are 'Green Knight by Memory Tapes. It's Free: I've had this problems that my drawings always seem immobile.. like something etched into the stone.. it may be nice but it's always rigid... this drawing has its flaws but i think it's so messy that it's actually liberating!

I flicked the sharpie.. crosshexed with the felts... stabbed with inaccurate lines with my red pen.. it didnt come out as clean as I wanted but I think that, it's specifically this reason that I felt it broke my shackles...

2. Something bout the light and darkness if you notice the far side of the face is far more filled with sharpie's cross hexes and the like and the foreground even the pupil is white.. I tried to deliberately cast a distinctive color difference and I think it turned out well! might use it in future pictures

You know there's actually something very unsettling about the face if you cover each side of the face it looks like two different expressions.. huh go figure.. also I do admit she does look like a man a bit i think it's the cheek bones and the chin.. arghh that chin..

Also I should really sign my drawings even the shitty ones!

Word of the Day!

Chemical cartography n.
Mapping a city’s distinctive smells to create a baseline for olfactory detection of suspicious activities—like bomb production. I first read about the going ons in Egypt when Wired reported that Internet went down. Now you might say that was mighty late of me, but aside form knowing about Egypt I know about solar sail powered spacecraft's in orbit around earth! Yes, just like the Bajoran's in Star Trek!

??!?

trailing rain, dropping hard, makes for punching, me in the gut...

yeah i got nothing

Blast 2 d' Past

I don't know maybe it's the fact that the newly 21 sheen has finally worn off or that these days seem especially ripe for being contemplative... but I've been thinking of my childhood lately...

Go on try it! Close your eyes and think! when you were 5 in kindergarten and that fat kid kicked sand into your face... ok ok bad one.. "catching?" remember that one? as a kid I was never fast.. but I sure as hell was smart... I went with the if you cant find me you can't catch me approach.. which often was met by "Yer you're cheating lah!" but I knew I wasn't... and they were just jealous that I was better! Hmph!

Sure was magical wasn't it... I mean when they say, "all kids need, are their imagination" they sure mean it...

I was never a very adventurous kid.. and I lived on a hill... a very steep hill... it was scary to go outside... We had a common park but it was a walks down and my mum never let me go alone... so yeah... didn't really have that big a social circle but I didn't need one...Oh I know what you're thinking! but you're wrong! I so did not have an imaginary friend.. but... I had imagination all right!

I remember one of the first things I had was this mug with Michael Jackson's face! and I thought that all you needed was long twirly hair on your forehead and being able to spin on one foot to be him... never really got the whole fact that he sang...

So yes whenever my hair would grow "just long enough" there I'd go wetting that bit of hair... twirling it in my finger admiring myself in the mirror... and then I'd stand ready.. going over the motions in my head.. a few false starts and then the kick off! knowing that it was too late to turn back I'd swing the momentum of my body all the way around completing the awesomestest dance move ever! and man was it a high! that dizzy feeling you get as the whole world wobbles around you as your throat chuckles, mind racing to the grand stage where millions of fans adore you and MJ at your side asks you show him how its done..

So try it sometime close your eyes think of a memory and ride it all the way... what you were wearing... what the air smelt like... the sound of your mum cooking in the back... the noise as your neighbour's honda pulls into the driveway.. to a time more magical

Here's the song that the name of my blog came from.. you might hate it... well actually I think I have sold my soul to this man and listen to it enough and you'll like it too.. also reduce the volume it's pretty loud

I have a picture I've been meaning to post and I'll probably do it late today

Drawn'd

You see when you give a picture of a dog (note dog above, his name btw is Jive.. don't ask) to a normal person, they'd go awwww....

When you give the a picture of a dog to a nerd (medical nerd.. since I'm in the field and all), he'd think of Pavlov's experiment and if the dog had been conditioned to look into the camera when presented to him...

When you give a picture of a dog to Tom Waits.. well Tom Waits would probably eat it.. not because he's a glutton but because I'm sure that's the kind of thing he does for kicks (if you're reading this Tom Waits please dont steal my soul.. pretty please)

But when you give a picture of a dog to ME! I thought his work was good but it was all oil paintings... and the downfall of being a medical student is that I simply don't have the luxury for something so resource and time intensive...

When I came upon his blog however he had been doing these one drawing a day things.. and they were amazing! there was so much freedom in what he did.. he drew figures but it was soo free almost masaaki yuasa in Mind Game but with enough detail that I actually like the art and not just appreciated it.. so I snatched a picture and copied it..

It's what I do.. not trace but just use the picture as a reference and insert my own style of drawing into it... but when I was done with it I noticed something... I got the perspective of the figure wrong.. although his pen sketches seem blasé it's really with a lot of experience backing it... amazing really

nway this is what I came up with... not perfect.. but its a start... also yeah near the end I kind of got lazy and I went over the feet with a wire-frame again..man I suck at drawing feet and hands

Enjoy

Reading

I like reading, I really do, the feeling of the page rubbing against my fingers, the smell that comes of as I scratch the page seems so familiar. It's all signs that I'm delving into a world I know little about and am about to know more the more I read.

I think that's the same reason I like TV shows. It doesn't rush to tell you everything about the world it's in. It opens and slowly lets you make your own decision about it's state showing different facets at a time. Well good TV shows at least.

I bought three books today, for two reasons mostly. One, to help alleviate my dad's boredom of sitting in my room. Secondly, a reason that I didn't really realise until I sampled one of the books I was getting for my dad. I like reading and three books covering a wide range (so not the word I'm looking for) of subjects is the way to go.

1. The Left Hand of God (Fantasy).. my mind still goes back to the "Magic Kingdom of Landover" Series which I started with "Magic Kingdom For Sale Sold" on the car ride from KL to Ipoh that disappeared. This along with that Blastoise Pokemon card are two things I still have no idea where they went.

2. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time (Fiction from an interesting narrative) I like it. If you like reading of any amount you'll like it too.

3. Shades of Grey (Fiction) the Premise is color coded Orwellian world? Maybe it's the fact I've just rewatched "Brazil" but the bleep on the back cover appealed to me.

So yes reading it's fun. Go do it.

When I was a kid I read a lot. In fact in my family we loved to compete and one of the things we competed on was who read more books. Don't ask why we did it. Maybe it's the fact that we all would grow up and be doctors. Say what you will about doctors but you gotta have a pretty high perception of yourself in relation to your peers to think that you can and should be a doctor. So yes it probably was an ego trip.

I digress, the point I wanted to get to was, when I was a kid our teachers used to say that Malaysians read an average of one page a year, in a very accusatory tone, like it was all our fault. I honestly think I did more than my part to lift the perception of illiteracy from our nation. so yeah screw you I did read and I am going to continue reading and if we as a nation don't read more don't you think the blame rests more on your shoulders (I'm speaking to the education ministry). Tossers! Yes you Ms Shereen from English in Standard 2!
