Drawn'd

Haven been drawing at all.. but was on the train the other day and started sketching.. well it came out horribly... but today i was thinking bout Valentines and how for the past couple of years it's always been a time for my art to flourish... this year I did it on a significantly less grander scale.. man did I kick this out fast... took me what half an hour at 3am? but I really like this for a few reasons:

1. It's Free: I've had this problems that my drawings always seem immobile.. like something etched into the stone.. it may be nice but it's always rigid... this drawing has its flaws but i think it's so messy that it's actually liberating!

I flicked the sharpie.. crosshexed with the felts... stabbed with inaccurate lines with my red pen.. it didnt come out as clean as I wanted but I think that, it's specifically this reason that I felt it broke my shackles...

2. Something bout the light and darkness if you notice the far side of the face is far more filled with sharpie's cross hexes and the like and the foreground even the pupil is white.. I tried to deliberately cast a distinctive color difference and I think it turned out well! might use it in future pictures

You know there's actually something very unsettling about the face if you cover each side of the face it looks like two different expressions.. huh go figure.. also I do admit she does look like a man a bit i think it's the cheek bones and the chin.. arghh that chin..

Also I should really sign my drawings even the shitty ones!

Drawn'd

You see when you give a picture of a dog (note dog above, his name btw is Jive.. don't ask) to a normal person, they'd go awwww....

When you give the a picture of a dog to a nerd (medical nerd.. since I'm in the field and all), he'd think of Pavlov's experiment and if the dog had been conditioned to look into the camera when presented to him...

When you give a picture of a dog to Tom Waits.. well Tom Waits would probably eat it.. not because he's a glutton but because I'm sure that's the kind of thing he does for kicks (if you're reading this Tom Waits please dont steal my soul.. pretty please)

But when you give a picture of a dog to ME! this happens...

Drawn'd

After a crazy long hiatus of not drawing I found Ashley Wood's blog and man I love the freedom the guy has in his drawings...

A bit of history, I never liked abstract art because well its too abstract... haha yeah I know I'm your regular William Blake when it comes to inventive wordplay... nway I first saw Ashley's work (is it ok if I call you Ashley?) when a friend loaned me "Zombies vs Robots"... it's a graphic novel btw... I thought his work was good but it was all oil paintings... and the downfall of being a medical student is that I simply don't have the luxury for something so resource and time intensive...

When I came upon his blog however he had been doing these one drawing a day things.. and they were amazing! there was so much freedom in what he did.. he drew figures but it was soo free almost masaaki yuasa in Mind Game but with enough detail that I actually like the art and not just appreciated it.. so I snatched a picture and copied it..

It's what I do.. not trace but just use the picture as a reference and insert my own style of drawing into it... but when I was done with it I noticed something... I got the perspective of the figure wrong.. although his pen sketches seem blasé it's really with a lot of experience backing it... amazing really

nway this is what I came up with... not perfect.. but its a start... also yeah near the end I kind of got lazy and I went over the feet with a wire-frame again..man I suck at drawing feet and hands

Enjoy
